Whether you are travelling to Looe by car, train, bus, coach or ferry, here is some advice to help you plan your journey.
Please note there are roadworks in place from November 4th- December 20th 2024 that may impact your journey. Our partner Welcome to Looe & Polperro have created a blog post with all the latest information. You can access this here: https://welcometolooe.com/polperro-road-closure.../...
Looe is less than 5 hours from London and 40 minutes from Plymouth so your seaside getaway is closer than you think!
The roads into Cornwall can be very busy during the summer months so we suggest travelling overnight or outside the peak rush hours to avoid the delays.
Looe is also a perfect base to explore the magic of Cornwall. Lizard point, the most southerly place in Britain, is less than 2 hours away; the magic of either Newquay or Padstow is only 1 hour’s drive away and you could be experiencing the wonder of the Eden Project in less than 40 minutes.
We recommend planning your journey ahead and using the Traffic watch updates provided by the Devon and Cornwall Police to help you avoid any delays.
We have EV charging points which you can find here.
Looe has its own train station and GWR operate frequent high speed train services from across the country, including a regular service from London Paddington station.
Many services end in Penzance (PNZ) and you can change at Liskeard (LSK) to travel to Looe (LOO). https://www.thetrainline.com/
If you are looking to explore Cornwall by rail, there are some wonderful choices including the Looe Valley Line that links Looe and Liskeard and other Great Scenic Railways journeys.
Looe is easily reached by train. Take the Looe Valley Line from Liskeard station, an easy change from the Cornwall mainline. The train journey passes through a wooded valley teeming with wildlife. Customers can expect beautiful views from the window and bird watchers will love it.

When you travel by train you can save on your train fare with these few tips:
Taking the train already helps tackle climate change – it cuts carbon emissions by two thirds compared to traveling by car. A single car removes up to 500 cars off the roads. *

GWR
Railway timetables across the country will be changing this Sunday (11th) December. This is one of the regular twice yearly changes. Changes to times on our network are minimal, but customers should check before they travel at www.gwr.com/check in case of any minor timing changes.
We wanted to also draw your attention to the introduction of our Intercity Express Trains (currently used on inter-city services to and from London) onto our Cardiff-Penzance route, serving the Welsh capital, Bristol, Weston-super-Mare, Taunton and into Devon and Cornwall. These will replace a number of our Castle Class trains (formed of old HSTs) which have in one form or another been in service for nearly 50 years. This will make a significant contribution in cutting our carbon emissions and also help us to reduce financial costs, which is particularly important given we are receiving taxpayer subsidy.
We’ve just had news that ASLEF (train drivers) will be going on strike on Thursday 5 January, this is in addition to the RMT strike days on Tuesday 3rd, Wednesday 4th, Friday 6th and Saturday 7th January we emailed yesterday.
There will therefore be strikes from the 3rd to the 7th of January.
It has only just been announced so we are now looking at the impacts, but as it is train drivers, it is very likely to mean that we will have no rail services at all on Thursday 5th January, apart from possibly limited services from Reading to Basingstoke, from Reading to Oxford and from London Paddington to Bristol. This is not confirmed.
We will update when we know more.
